Brief description:
The UNESCO Global Geopark Vis Archipelago is an area of internationally significant geological heritage. The aim of the project is to popularise geology in order to contribute to the preservation of the natural heritage of the Vis Archipelago by educating third-grade students of the general secondary school programme and strengthening the capacity of the educational staff of Antun Matijašević-Karamaneo High School in the field of geology.
Project activities include education on scientific research methods, field workshops on the islands of Vis, Jabuka and Brusnik, workshops on the identification of rock, mineral and fossil types, writing scientific papers, visits to higher education and scientific geological institutions in Zagreb, and geological workshops in Brijuni National Park.
In addition, a geological collection will be established and a catalogue of rocks, minerals and fossils of the Vis Archipelago Geopark will be compiled.
Objective of the project and expected results:
General objective: Popularisation of geology as an interdisciplinary natural science within secondary education in order to support the preservation of the natural heritage of the UNESCO Global Geopark Vis Archipelago.
Specific objective 1: Education of secondary school students on the methodologies of scientific research and scientific writing.
Specific objective 2: Strengthening the capacity of the teaching staff of the secondary school in the field of geology.
Total value of the project: 20.997.48 EUR
Grant funding: 7.156.00 EUR
Co-financing: 13.841,48 EUR
Implementation period: 6.2024. - 6.2025.
