Krušovica Pond – the crown returns to its rightful place

In the Komiža area, a project for the renovation and revitalization of the Krušovica pond is underway. This is a valuable dry-stone wall site and part of the cultural landscape of the Vis archipelago.

The project is being implemented through The Public Call for the Renovation and Revitalization of Open Wells and Ponds Built Using Traditional Construction Methods in Split-Dalmatia County, with the aim of preserving traditional construction, ensuring the safety of the site, and its long-term valorization.

As part of the project, the stone crown of the pond is being remediated and renovated, the site is being cleaned and arranged, and documentation of the existing state was previously prepared. This will ensure that the Krušovica pond, protected as an immovable cultural heritage site under the designation Z-6140, will gain stability, safety, and clear guidelines for further preservation.

Krušovica is an important point of the geopath „Put poja“ and a valuable example of the connection between traditional construction, local knowledge, and daily life in the island landscape.

Such interventions are not merely construction works. They represent an investment in preserving knowledge, traditional dry-stone wall building skills, and the identity of the area.

The revitalization of the Krušovica pond demonstrates the importance of investing in traditional construction – not merely as a heritage of the past, but as a living part of the area that still holds functional, aesthetic, and educational value today.
