Lecture on cooperation with the tourism sector in the UNESCO Vis Archipelago Geopark
A lecture for students was held at Antun Matijašević Karamaneo High School on the topic of "Cooperation with the tourism sector in the UNESCO Vis Archipelago Geopark".
During the lecture, the Vis Archipelago Geopark was presented, along with its geological, natural, and cultural values that make the Vis Archipelago unique at national and international levels. Through discussion with the students, emphasis was placed on the connection between heritage and tourism, and the potential for developing sustainable, educational, and scientific tourism that contributes to the preservation of the area while simultaneously creating new opportunities for the local community.
Special attention was given to the concept of geotourism and how the Geopark develops content based on local heritage – through interpretive geological tours, educational workshops, guided visits, themed trails, and the promotion of local products via the GEOfood concept.
The goal of such activities is to develop tourism that brings the island's natural and cultural values closer to visitors, while not endangering the area or local identity, but rather further protecting and enhancing them.
We are particularly pleased that we were able to share this topic with young people, who play a crucial role in the future sustainable development of Vis Island and the preservation of its heritage.
