Lecture: “The Island of Vis Through Geological History – What Made It So Special?”

As part of the program St. George's Days 2026, the Vis Archipelago Geopark invites all interested parties to a lecture “The Island of Vis Through Geological History – What Made It So Special?”, to be held by the geologist of the Vis Archipelago Geopark.

The lecture will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM at Vis City Library and Reading Room.

During the lecture, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the long and fascinating geological history of the island of Vis and discover how its layers, relief, and natural features were formed over millions of years, making the Vis archipelago one of the most geologically interesting areas of the Adriatic today.

Topics will include the formation of rocks, the shaping of the coast and landscape, the geological processes that created the island's current appearance, and the importance of geo-heritage in understanding the environment we live in.

The lecture is intended for anyone interested in natural heritage, geology, the history of the island, and the unique features of the Vis Archipelago.

We look forward to seeing you!
