Preschoolers on Hum – from radars to Jupiter
Children from Vis Kindergarten visited a military facility on Hum, where members of the Croatian Army welcomed them and gave them an interesting insight into their daily work.
With expert guidance from the soldiers, the little explorers toured the armory and gym, and then climbed to a viewpoint offering a panoramic view of the Vis archipelago. There, they had the opportunity to see radars used to monitor maritime traffic and ship movements at sea. It was a special moment where the children could experience how the surrounding sea area is observed and protected from the highest point of Vis Island.
After looking out at the sea, the evening continued with a look at the sky. Through a telescope, they observed the Moon and Jupiter and discussed planets, space, and celestial bodies. The children showed great interest, asked numerous questions, and impressed everyone present with their knowledge of space.
From radars to telescopes, from the sea to the stars, the encounter on Hum demonstrated how curiosity and learning best develop through direct experience, observation, and discussion.
We thank the members of the Croatian Army for their hospitality, patience, and interesting tour, as well as the preschoolers from Vis Kindergarten for their curiosity, excellent questions, and great interest in the world around us.
