The SALTECTA team once again in the UNESCO Global Geopark Vis Archipelago

A scientific project is being conducted in the area of the UNESCO Global Geopark Vis Archipelago SALTECTA, which brings together researchers from the Croatian Geological Survey, the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering, University of Zagreb and Cardiff University.

The project aims to research salt tectonics and the large underground geological structures that have shaped the central Adriatic region. This is an extremely important topic for understanding the geological development of our area, as well as the wider Adriatic region.

The Vis Archipelago is one of the most interesting areas of the Adriatic, precisely because of the complex geological processes associated with salt diapirs. Traces of these processes are visible in the relief, rocks, and geomorphological phenomena of our islands, making the Geopark area a valuable space for scientific research and the interpretation of geoheritage.

Through field research, analysis of geological structures, and the application of modern scientific methods, the SALTECTA project will contribute to a better understanding of the geological evolution of the Adriatic and further valorization of the geoheritage of the UNESCO Global Geopark Vis Archipelago.

We are proud that the area of our Geopark is part of such important international and interdisciplinary research, connecting science, natural heritage protection, and education.
